Description Rainer Bielefeld 2003-09-25 16:15:57 UTC
On my system I have Installed
OOo 1.1RC3 German version WIN98SE: 645m15(Build8669) [CWS:ooo11rc3]
and
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.4) Gecko/20030624

When I install the MOZILLA addressbook, I can only select the addressbook of one
of my MOZILLA profiles. I did no check the limitation:
- the one of the just active MOZILLA profile ?
- the one of the fist profile in alpabetic order
- an other criteria ?

I will check this.

Questions:
- Is this problem also visible in other OS?

Related to issue 6485 ?

It has nothing to do with the actual active MOZILLA profile, I checked
that.

OOo uses Mozilla components to access the Mozilla address book (in
fact, some libraries of Mozilla code, which - by chance - then don't
run in a Mozilla process, but in a OOo process).

Mozilla itself allows to work with one profile only - you also cannot
access address books from different profiles in the same Mozilla session.

There is a documented, though invisible in the UI, possibility to
switch the profile which is used by OOo:
http://dba.openoffice.org/howto/mozillaprofile.html

So unless we change the whole architecture, the only chance(s) we have
here would be:
- create an UI for switching the profile
- allow switching profiles on-the-fly, similar to what Mozilla allows
since 1.4 (though, AFAIK, there it doesn't work for address books,
either, at least not without restart)

I am not sure if it is worth it: Finally, I don't think that a lot of
people really have more than 1 profile *in active use*. The only issue
I see is if different users work, on the same machine, with the same
Mozilla installation. But these people could use the feature on the
page cited above to point their user installations of OOo to the right
Mozilla profile.

Hi Frank,

thanks for your information, it seems that this is more or less an
ENHANCEMENT request. I will change Summary, Priority, Issue type and
Target Milestone.

A note concerning <http://dba.openoffice.org/howto/mozillaprofile.html>:
MOZILLA _is_ able to change the profile during the running session -
might be this can be ported "somehow" to OOo?

Old Summary:
Only MOZILLA addressbook of one MOZILLA-profile can be selected

New: see above.

Well, at the very moment I wrote this document, Mozilla wasn't :).
Also, IIRC, when they introduced the feature, it did not yet affect
the address book, don't know if they already fixed it. If I find some
time, I may update the page.
Yes, in principle it would be possible to port this to OOo.

Thanks
Frank
