After installing 1.1.0 rc4 into a separate folder from 1.0.3, I could not get the .xls attachements in my Netscape e-mail to open under 1.1.0. In 
order to have it open under 1.1.0 I had to use regedit to modify the entries for soffice.exe to point to the correct soffice.exe , e.g.,
MyComputer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Applications\soffice.exe\shell\open\command change ..."1.0.3"... to ..."1.1.0"...
Similarily I changed it for the commands (open, new, print, printo) for excel.Sheet and the numerous the soffice.STAR{math,impress,frame, 
draw, chart,...) entries. 
This probably a generic problem for all MS attachments.

You have to choose the filetype assiation for OOo 1.1.0 at
installation. The default is not to use 1.1.0 if there is an existing
association.
