Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 19730
Word doc created in OOo 1.1rc4 cannot be opened in Word 2000
Last modified: 2010-11-10 16:38:11 UTC
Microsoft Word 9.0.2720 OpenOffice.org 1.1.0 RC4 Microsoft Windows XP Home Version 5.1.2600 Service Pack 1 Build 2600 Document created in OpenOffice as a .sxw file. File also saved as a Microsoft .doc. When the .doc file is opened in Word and edited, it cannot be saved, as Word instantly shuts down and the change is not made. Consistent across every file made this way. Tried opening the .doc file in Word and resaving it. It will save the document, but if you edit the resulting document, it cannot be saved. The only solution so far is to open the .doc file in Word, cut and paste the text into a new document and resave it in Word.
Please try to find way how to reproduce the problem. if your problem only sometimes happend we have difficulty to confirm it is real problem or not. Please come back with more information. Thanks Please explain more about your problem, your information is not enough to investigate the problem. Do you have problem during Installation ? And please try to repair the installation. Please Attach the documents which make this problem, so we can test it. (Without the documents, we cannot confirm the problem easily) Don't forget to cut other part of the documents, so the file size is small, but we still able to see the problem.

Created attachment 9540 [details] Created in 1.1rc4 saved as Word doc. Crashes Word 2000 when trying to save Word edited version.
Tested attachment with Office 2000 on Win 98 (as opposed to standalone Word on XP) and id not experience problem.
Info update: Version of Word causing issue is part of from Microsoft Works Suite 2000.
This must be a problem of your Word 2000 installation. I tested it with Word XP, Word 2000 and Word 97 on Windows XP and on Windows 2000. I did not experience any crash. Thus I do not think of an OO related problem.
Closed.
I Can Not Reproduce the problem in OpenOffice 1.1,MS Office XP Pro Sp2, Win Xp Pro.
Further investigation has shown that there was an underlying problem with the original Word 2000 installation. A complete unistall and reinstall of the Works 2000 suite has fixed the problem. Thank you for you time and effort. I was submitting this bug report as a favor to a friend. She is very impressed with the responsiveness of the OpenOffice.org community. Because of the quality and value of OpenOffice.org 1.1 and the efforts to find a resolution to her problem she has committed to help us market OOo to her friends in the local business community.
