Description mintslice 2003-09-17 04:53:53 UTC
Having done installs of OOo-1.1-rc[1-4] no version has created the various items
in my gnome-2.x menus.

I noticed that the items are installed for gnome-1.x, but not gnome-2.x

I would suggest the appropriate place for such icons we be Applications > Office.

I can't reproduce on RH 9 with Gnome 2.2.0. All OOo icons are in a
Gnome submenu of Office.

Traditionally, or at least in my experience, it's polite to assume
that just because something works for one person doesn't mean it's
working for another. In the context of bug reports, this usually
means that you say it works for you, so you'll need more information,
rather than simply resolving the bug and saying it's not a problem for
me, it mustn't be a problem for anyone else.

In the gnome bugzilla, there's a NEEDINFO option which might be worth
adding, but let's not get started about the OOo bugzilla implementation.

Right, now that that's off my chest, here's some more information.

I've installed OOo as a network install, and then done an install in
my home directory. I'm the only one who uses this box, but I've still
done a network style install, rather than a single user install.

As such, I would have thought that all the menu items for OOo would be
in my home directory, but I can't find them. Where should they be
locates in my home directory that Gnome-2.x should be seeing them?
Maybe I could confirm that the .desktop files are in the appropriate
place.

I've never stated that you don't have a problem with your OOO version.
I've just used your provided description to reproduce, and I can't ->
works for me. I don't think it's unpolite to think if it doesn't work
for you it doesn't work for everybody. A step-by-step description of
what you are doing would have been helpfull and would have reduced
work for me. I think reading
http://www.openoffice.org/bugs/bug_writing_guidelines.html before
writing would been polite too.

I even can't reproduce with a 'network'/'workstation' installation:
First I started as root the -net installation, then I logged in as
user 'A' and started ./setup in /opt/OpenOffce1.1.0/ for the
workstation installation: Gnome menu integration has been done.

Okay, you can't reproduce this.

Can you tell me where the *.desktop files are so that I can address
this through the appropriate channels (might be a gnome-2.4 issue).
Without know where these files are it's hard to know what's wrong.

I have the entries in <home>/.gnome/apps/OpenOffice.org 1.1.0/
of -> obr: Have I missed something? Do we need channges for Gnome 2.4?
If we need these changes, I would reassign this issue.

For Gnome 2.0 and 2.2 the *.desktop files had be located in
$HOME/.gnome2/vfolders/applications. There was an agreement to switch
to $HOME/.desktop at some stage. Maybe they did the move for 2.4 ?!

On the other hand, I always encourage people to wait for the OOo
builds of their linux vendors for a perfect menu-integration.
