Description Unknown 2001-10-20 16:05:15 UTC
I would like to see the ability to show slides with this ability:

1. on my laptop screen I want to see the slide and a "slide sorter" or "slide
browser"
2. at the same time - on the wall - I just want to see the slide, no "slide
browser"

application: - if showing slides for a song being sung I could immediately jump
to the slide that the leader wants w/out having to guess or go in a linear
fashion - this feature is in some "song" software

setting component to presentation

I was looking at the "live-mode" feature. This is the basic idea,
only the "navigator" wouldn't be displayed from the projector at the
same time the user is using it on his laptop screen.

This issue is re-assigned to Christian Jansen for further evaluation.

Sounds interesting. A solution could be a "dual head projection" one
vie support any kind of view (no editing!), the other one the
projection. Due to the fact that this enhancement needs to be well
planned and discussed, I will set the state to "later".
Comment 7 phasmal 2004-07-18 04:50:55 UTC
I think this is one area of opportunity for Open Office to make a mark.
Currently Powerpoint has a passable dual monitor capability, but it could be
improved upon. We are in a situation where we are are using Open Office Impress
for this kind of dual monitor control/view situation, but are considering moving
to Powerpoint because OOImpress doesn't have this functionality.

The functionality I'm talking about is essentially focused around remotely
controlling a presentation (in a 'projection booth' kind of scenario). But
could equally apply to normal running of a presentation from laptop.

Features I'd like to see (in order of priority)

1. see slide thumbnails in the navigator instead of the blank squares (this
would provide 90% of our needs)
2. see a close-up of the current slide
3. same keys work in the navigator as in the slide show (space, pgdn, pgup,
left, right, etc.)
4. be able to move the presentation to a different screen (Issue 30760)
5. be able to see a 'preview' of the next screen, and likewise for the previous
one (bigger than the navigator thumbnails, smaller than the view of the current
one)
6. Ability to bookmark screens and jump to them with the numeric keys (or assign
key to jump with)
7. See all screens with dynamic sizing as current is selected (a bit like the
effect in OSX of hovering over the launch bar down the bottom) :) - OK, so this
is a bit of a dream one...

Ideas:
(caveat: I haven't seen any of the code)
If you were able to generalise where the presentation is made, you could put up
two instances of it, functionally identical except for the location (and window
vs fullscreen).
The second instance (when it is activated) could be by default on the secondary
screen.
If the navigator rendered the slides as well (even if the keys weren't changed)
this would give the majority of the functionality.

-- maybe this isn't that hard to do???

The previous entry says that this requires further discussion - I'm happy to
discuss!

Why is this set to resolved? The issue has not been fixed?
Comment 9 phasmal 2004-07-18 21:59:43 UTC
It's resolved with a 'later' flag, which I assume means "let's not deal with
this at this time because other things need doing for the current release"

- maybe a shortfalling with that tag is the ability for things to slip through
the cracks later on? Or maybe just not many people are interested in this one?

Anyway, I'd like to see it reopened, no idea how to accomplish that, though.

OpenLP does what the original poster is asking for in terms of presentation.
Anyone who wants to see what's intended could download and run it. Its major
shortcoming (and advantage) is that it works from a database of text. Slides are
generated on the fly.
Comment 11 phasmal 2004-08-03 07:55:03 UTC
Any chance of getting this reopened? should I email the developer mailgroup?
Comment 12 christian.jansen 2005-04-01 13:29:42 UTC
CJ: This is something for OO.o 3.0
Comment 13 homa 2006-05-29 19:27:53 UTC
I think the first step for dualview systems is the choice for the target slide
monitor. At the moment you can only use the primary monitor, but on a laptop or
dualview system i want to use the secondary monitor for the slide.

Othewise i can only hook up with the dreams from phasmal

I can not code, but i hope it come earlier then OOo 3
I know a lot of people who use Powerpoint instead OOo for this job and that is
the reason why they don't change.
