Description kb0000 2003-09-15 21:49:24 UTC
1.1.0 RC4, and also 1.0.2

opening a large excel file, a file with many rows makes OO hang with 100% cpu usage.

i dont know for sure if the problem is due to size or anyhing else with this file.
it will open in kspread and gnumeric but not OO.

reproducebility: 100%
steps to reproduce
1. go to: http://www.riksbanken.se/default.asp?id=5054
2. dowload the TCW-index file IndexsYYMMDD.xls by clicking on the excel icon.
3. try to open it.

I can Reproduce the problem on OOo 1.1 RC4, Win XP Pro Sp1
It is real problem
I cannot open that file on OOo 1.1 Rc4

It is not so big Excel file (less than 1 MB).

Hi,

it's not really a bug. The file loads but takes a lot of time due to
the chart on the first sheet.

So I change this one to an RFE and assign it to the chart team.

So this seems to be a performance issue? Hopefully this will need no
extra effort for the new chart implementation.

I use Duron 1.1 256 MB, Win XP Sp1.
I open that documents, 3 minutes still not yet opened.
the progress bar look 100%, but my screen at OOo windows become white
(normal blank is grey)
5 minutes still waiting now.
Finally I got the file opened. I see the graph, but after that the
graph is disapear.

can we got this improvement before 2.0 plese?

One of the reasons for re-implementing the chart was performance.
Increasing the performance of the current chart would take a huge
amount of time, which we then would not have for the new
implementation. So, I think it doesn't make sense to spend time in
this area.

If you or somebody else wants to profile the import of your file and
find out where the bottlenecks in the code are, feel free to do so.
