Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 19571
Using Field Names with hyphens in means using double quotes
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:41:36 UTC
Set up the data source and perform the mail merge. The first instance of E-mail is hidden because it is just not(E-mail) whereas the second instance uses double quotes. This is a large problem for ordinary users expecting hyphenated field names to work the same as others. This issue would resolve the core part of Issue 18294 and part of the need to change the documentation in Issue 19454 Confirmed on Linux and Windows XP, under 1.1 RC4

The 'E-mail' string is evaluated as 'E <minus> mail' and output an error (i.e it does not work). We should really advice in the documentation about using quotes when "crtical characters" (here operator sign) are used. ES->FPE: please ask OS about the possible "dangerous" characters and advice to use quotes.

FPE->UFI: One more for the pile.
*** Issue 22720 has been marked as a duplicate of this issue. ***
Please note that this blocks 22720 but 22720 is not a duplicate of this bug. There are separate issues involved with 22720, namely spaces in field names do not work with hidden paragraphs at all (single quotes always return true, double quotes always return false.

edited text\swriter\01\04090200.xml. It now advices to use [brackets] and to avoid spaces. Single or double quotes seem to have their own problems. This is a fix to the online help - it will not fix the program code if there is any bug. See the other issues, also #i25781# and #i25983#
