Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 19537
Continuing previous numbered lists
Last modified: 2013-02-07 22:43:02 UTC
In 1.1 RC4 if you start a numbered list e.g. 1. Milk<enter> 2. Cheese<enter> 3. Onions<enter> etc. it works fine. But if you have an existing document with some paragraphs and you want to number them 1. 2. 3. the actual result is 1. 1. 1. 1. (press numberedlist icon)A few lines/words of text <a blank line> 1. (press numberedlist icon)A few lines/words of text <a blank line> 1. (press numberedlist icon)A few lines/words of text OO thinks that if you give a second enter to create a blank line that the next numbered list is new and should start with 1. But in this case Especialy is you want to number paragraphs, it should continue with the previous list, as is the case in Microsoft Word.
Good point. OOo duplicates the same problem that older versions of Word did -- it was (and in OOo, still is) difficult to attain control over Numbering sequences. Would it not be useful to permit the user to select "Start new sequence?" or "Continue old sequence?" somewhere?
Created attachment 9302 [details] How it's done in Microsoft Word
This is exactly my point, if you can realise the above two options you suggest it would be a nice usability improvement. Suggestion: From my experience with Word, it's useful to always assume (if possible) you want to continue a sequence, most of the time you will. if not, it's just one option you should set: "start new sequence" so it's not much work. See the attachment I send, a screenshot from Word My Word is in Dutch so: "Opnieuw nummeren" means "start new sequence" and "Doorgaan met vorige lijst" means continue old sequence.
