Description nivag 2003-09-12 11:00:17 UTC
Background:
Yesterday I upgraded OpenOffice.org from 1.1RC3 to RC4. Last night I started to
write a specification document, an hour or 2 later I went on the Internet using
another virtual desktop. When I came back to the virtual desktop containing
OpenOffice.org where I was working on my document, I found that any mouse click
caused a beep sound and no useful activity. The only thing I can do with any of
the 3 OpenOffice.org windows (see beepng20030912.png) appears to be to drag them
round by the title bar. I can not even kill them by clicking on the "X" kill
icon. I know I can do a "kill -9 <pid>", but I am keeping it up for now, in
case your developers want me to run any useful diagnostics.

I will include the file and a screenshot as attachments.

I am using (from Kernel Startup Log):
Linux version 2.4.20-20.7 (bhcompile@porky.devel.redhat.com) (gcc version 2.96
20000731 (Red Hat Linux 7.3 2.96-113)) #1 Mon Aug 18 14:56:30 EDT 2003

I have marked this as the highest priority for 2 reasons:

(A) I still have the application "running", with the idea that a
developer may be abe to tell how to provide more useful diagnostics.

(B) I think this might be a potential showstopper for release of 1.1
Final.

Feel free to down grade the priority, if this appears to be an
isolated case, or appears to be just a wierd quirk on my system, or
any other good reason!

It is 11:20 am in Dublin, Ireland now. I will check my email every
hour or so for the next 8 hours.

Grrr... My fault.

The one place I had not clicked was on the "Outline Numbering" dialog!
 So it was not frozen.

Suggested Enhancement:
Would it be possible to display some kind of tool tip or message box,
if a user clicks on an OpenOffice.org window other than the open
dialog box, to warn that they should return to the dialog, or to
automatically return focus to the dialog (or some such)?

To grep the issues easier via "requirements" I put the issues currently lying on
my owner to the owner "requirements".
Comment 8 Martin Hollmichel 2011-03-16 13:20:54 UTC
changed description to be more specific on the problem. in multi screen environments this can be annoying, esp. if the dialog pops up not on the active screen.
