Description Unknown 2003-09-10 19:55:22 UTC
Previouus versions of Open Office (prior to 1.1 and perhaps the original 1.1
beta) could print vertical text in spreadsheets. Now the print preview of a
document will show correctly oriented vertical text, but the text will be
printed horizontally with the characters turned 90°. Saving a spreadsheet to a
pdf file works correctly however.

Open a spreadsheet. Select a cell. Enter any text desired. Right click
mouse to format cells. Change alignment to vertical text (90 deg).
Printing rotated text will be corrupted, although print preview is
correct. This problem only appears to occur with the Windows version.
The Linux version still prints vertically oriented text correctly.

Hi,

sorry to tell you, but I was not able to reproduce what you're facing,
neither on Windows nor on Linux.

It seems to bew a problem with the printer driver. BTW what type and
model of a printer do you use ? What's the version number of the
driver and where can I get it ? Also, please attach a document that
shows this behaviour. This will give me the opportunity to see what
type of options you had switched on. Maybe it has something to do with
Asian language support or CTL (writing right to left).

Best regards

Frank

I think I fouled up entering a comment and attaching a file.
As I said, previous versions of Win OO printed vertical text
correctly. Linux OO still prints my spreadsheets correctly. I'm still
using the same HP LaserJet 4P printer. Perhaps my system driver has
changed.

I've tried it again with the systems printer driver for the HP
Laserjet 4 p from Win XP and the printout is correct.

Therefore I've to close this one as worksforme. Sorry.

I'm really lost as to what is causing the vertically oriented text in
spreadsheets to print incorrectly on my Dell XPS T500 with HP LaserJet
4 Plus printer. I deleted the old printer driver and reinstalled it
again from a Win98SE disk. Same problem with the text not printing
correctly. I downloaded the legacy OO 1.0.3.1 and installed it leaving
the OO 1.1 RC4 on my computer. The legacy version prints all text
perfectly, while the RC4 version doesn't. OO is great software, and I
can work around this text issue, but I'd like to know where the
problem stems from. My Dell system is dual boot with Linux. OO RC4 for
Linux works perfectly also.

hi,

one thing that you can check is the checkbox 'use printer metrics...'
under tools options spreadsheet general.

We have chnaged the default state of it from On (1.0.3.1) to Off (1.1...).

Maybe this causes the problem.

I tried changing the checkbox to 'use printer metrics...'. It still
didn't help. I even tried a trial version of Sun Star Office 7. The
only Open Office versions that work correctly are 1.0.3.1 and earlier.
I really don't want to format my hard drive to kill any possible
windows bugs, so I will just live with the problem by keeping the
legacy version and the latest Open Office software on my computer.
