Description lippj 2003-09-10 12:53:27 UTC
Slides with sequences of animations created in PowerPoint are not correctly
imported to openoffice.org presentation package. Animations which run
automatically, with waits for mouse clicks at various points get imported, but
wait for a mouse click between every single animation point during the slide
show (actually two clicks are needed - one to delete the previous animated
object and the second to draw the next).
Further to this, the animation sequence cannot be corrected as it does not
appear to list in the animation dialog (Slide show-->Animation)

Reassigned to Christian.

Some of the object effects will be started automatic and some on mouse
click.
This is not a bug but a missing feature.

I ran into the same problem with a power point presentation that requires a key
press to show the next slide, but within the slide all effects should run
automatically (as with the example provided by the reporter).

I think that the problem is that the effects mode of the imported slides is set
to "manual". After changing the effects mode of all slides to "semi automatic"
(or something like that; I have only the Dutch version of OOo installed) then
the presentation was shown as apparently intended. So I think the effects mode
of the slides is not handled (correctly) by the import filter. As OpenOffice.org
is actually able to show the presentation as intended, it is not a case of
"missing feature".

So, I propose to change the issue type to "defect" and reassign as necessary.

I've tried the suggestion by simonbr. This only partly overcomes the problem as
the animation now goes from beginning to end without waiting for mouse clicks at
intended places in sequence. My animation when opened in Powerpoint waits for a
click, shows a few of the animated steps, waits for another click before showing
a few more.... OOo does not wait for the intermediate clicks and so the
animation completes without allowing me to explain what is going on to my
audience.
It seems to be a two step problem - first as simonbr correctly points out, the
effects mode needs to be imported [defect] and secondly, the 'triggering' of
animations needs to be imported correctly [may be defect or missing feature]

Indeed slides that advance automatically in Powerpoint should also advance
automatically in Impress. So there is an import bug.

There is more than that to animations, however. Control of animation is more
limited in OOo Impress than it is in Powerpoint, so there is a feature request.
In Impress, you only can define on a per slide basis whether animations on the
slide should proceed automatic or on a mouse click (via Slide Show - Slide
transition). In Powerpoint, you can control per object whether its animation
should proceed automatically or on a mouse click. Thus, in Powerpoint, you can
have a graphic fly in automatically and then a text appear on a mouse click. In
Impress, either both objects appear automatically, or both appear on mouseclicks.

To grep the issues easier via "requirements" I put the issues currently lying on
my owner to the owner "requirements".
