Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 19357
Font kerning incorrect
Last modified: 2004-01-28 15:55:47 UTC
I've tested over 50 fonts, and all suffer from this issue. The kerning is incorrect, such as "Original" looks like "O riginal" but not quite that extreme. Also when bolding text, unless the text has a separate bold font, the letters collide. It basically makes OO unsuitable for any type of professional document, unless one is using a monotype font where it doesn't matter. I've confirmed that other applications (such as Gimp) in Linux and Windows using the same fonts have no such issue. I'm using Type1 fonts, my TT fonts don't even show up in OO (i.e. I can select them but it is just white space) though they work in Gimp and other applications just fine. Anyway, if OO is expected to make any impact, this needs fixed. Let me know if you need any more info. Screenshots are available on request which show the difference between a correctly rendered font in Gimp, versus the incorrect rendering present under OO.
Reassigned to Christian.
Priority changed from 1 to 3.
This problem appears to be solved in OOo RC5. I remember that the beta and RC1 had font kerning issues in writer as well when the text was justified. Could you try reproducing this on the latest release candidate ? Alex
set to new and change the target.
We've done some fixes which will solve this bug. The fixes will be integrated in the OOo 1.1.1 To reproduce the bug and test if it works with this fixes please attach a screen shot and the corresponding Impress file.
Created attachment 10435 [details] Attached document reveals substantial differences in the kerning as applied by Write and Draw. Maybe this helps sorting out this issue.
This issue is duplicate to issue 15437 *** This issue has been marked as a duplicate of 15437 ***
The fix is integrated in OOo1.1.1 on Sols, Lin, Win. This version will be available soon.
