Printing Problems with text/data & charts/plots
Last modified: 2003-10-06 09:29:53 UTC
Spreadsheet component: When sheet contains data/text and chart/plot, only chart/plot is printed. Try for yourself; insert a chart, then type in some text, and print.

Hi, I tried to reproduce it but was not able to do so. What type of printer do you use ? Whats the version number of the printer driver and there can I get it ? Frank
Thanks for the prompt reply- I use a Lexmark X1150 (all in one), using "Lexmark 1100 series" driver that came with the printer. I checked with Lexmark and the driver is most current available, copyrighted 5/03. Since it is also a scanner, it uses a bundled driver package (v 1.0.4.0) available at : http://drivers3.lexmark.com/drivers.nsf/printer+driver/A01C75B8C7465E AF85256D1F00621B30?OpenDocument&Lexmark+X1100+Series , though the package is 26 MB and probably won't help you unless you have access to a similar printer. The printer itself uses drivers that the package places on your HD (about 18 MB!). The printer is new this year. I have noticed that when the printer is instructed to print the entire grid (difficult to read) that the text is printed with figures, albeit ugly. What do you think? -khazmat
Hi, I've downloaded the driver package, installed them and used the print preview to test them. Normally the print preview shows the document as it should be printed because the printer driver is used to show the preview. I was not able to reproduce your problem. As you said you get some figures if set the options to print the grid, have you switched of some more options under format page ? Also a problem with your fonts maybe possible. Frank
Hello again- Thanks so much for taking the time for this. In response, I have checked every possible combination of settings under 'Format Page', with varied results. If a sheet contains two charts, only the first will be printed. If charts are unchecked, the preview window will only show text and it prints fine. If the grid is checked, or if the column and row headers are checked, everything prints. In fact, the preview window always reflects the proper information, yet the printed page does not always reflect the preview. I recognize that there is no real way for you to verify this, that it is easy for me to claim the page is one way on the screen and another on the final printout. Here's what I plan to do. First, I will install OO on another computer (with a different printer) and test print a sheet with charts and text. If all goes well there, I will reinstall my printer driver, though I've already considered that. My current work-around is to export the file to .PDF and use Adobe acrobat to print, which works great. Kinda strange.
Success! I ran the same spreadsheet on a different computer using OpenOffice 1.1. The computer also had a lexmark printer, and it printed just fine. I subsequently reinstalled my printer drivers (again) and everything is great. Thanks to all who have worked on this, despite the fact that my computer was the only problem! khazmat
So I close it as fixed. Frank
