Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 19222
Problem in Arabic/Hindi numerals selection
Last modified: 2013-08-07 15:00:27 UTC
In Tools -> Options Then Language Settings -> Complex Text Layout There is an option on the right called "Numerals". It takes one of three values: Arabic, Hindi and System. In Windows XP, there is an option called "Context". When this is used, Numerals will be "Arabic" when near English text and will be "Hindi" when they appear near Arabic text. This option does not appear in this menu. When I choose "System" from the menu, and I have the "Context" option in my Windows XP settings, I expect to get that behavior. This is not working either. Also, when documents are printed, this option is ignored all together. All digits appear in Hindi.
DL->FT: Would you please takeover?
.
FT->SBA: Can you please verify? Thx.
Created attachment 11973 [details] patch for fix ctl text numerals
We have temporary fix for this issue. We send our patch for everyone to review. In the patch we use a static variable to keep numerals locale data from ctl dialog options and set this data before display text number in outputs (screen and printer).
SBA: (1) The printing problem was a defect and was fixed with internal #111922# in CWS vcl7pp1r2, thus will be fixed in OOo 1.1.1. (2) The "Context" thingie is an ENHANCEMENT and not a defect. SBA-> Ahmad: (A) We can't proceed "collective tasks". Please report ONE thing per issue in the furture. Thanks for your comprehension. (B) "Mutating" issues are highly ineffective: To understand them, the amount to read grows and grows while large parts don't match the "current" subject at all. If you like, have a look at the worst example there is at times concerning "too much to read to be effective": issue 1820 So please submit a new issue about the Context sensitive behavior and flag it as ENHANCEMENT in the first place. Thank you. I talked to the developer: It would probably be a further list box entry beside Arabic/Hindi/System.
SBA: Closed.
