Description rblackeagle 2003-09-06 07:50:59 UTC
There has been a lot of complaining about the behavior of images in Writer, Calc
and Impress and more about imported graphics from Draw. Images change size or
shape, move around arbitrarily and otherwise do things that are totally
unexpected and, in some cases, bizarre. I suggest that at least part of these
problems might be solved by changing the anchoring behavior in the following
fashion:

Anchored to page: Stuck on the page it is placed on. Added text flows around
it. If I need to move it, I move it, but the program sticks it to the precise
place on the precise page I put it on. If I delete the page, the image moves to
the page with the same internal page number or, if it is the last page, to the
last page of those remaining.

Anchored to paragraph: Stuck to the paragraph (with upper edge retaining the
relationship to top line of the paragraph). If I delete the paragraph, it
reverts to anchored to page. If I add text, it simply moves with the text.

Anchored to character: Stuck to the character preceding (or following if on one
side). Reverts to anchored to paragraph if the anchored character is deleted.

Anchored as character: Treated for all purposes (position especially) as a
character. Entering more text moves the image and it wraps like an
un-hyphenated word.

This "sticking the anchoring firmly" might solve at least the "jumping around
behavior" that has driven so many of us to frustration.

To grep the issues easier via "requirements" I put the issues currently lying on
my owner to the owner "requirements".

When I "anchor" an image or graphic "to page," and save my work, the anchor changes back to "character" when I re-open the document for editing.

Also, and "shadow" I apply to a photo or graphic disappears the next time I open the document.

I am using Windows Vista, service pack 2 and Open office version 3.3
