Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 19040
images in document lost when Windows warns about low disk space
Last modified: 2004-06-16 10:32:58 UTC
images in document lost when Windows warns about low disk space make somehow sure you're low on disk space. start a new Writer doc, insert some images, SAVE it. when Windows warns about low disk space: either scroll up and down or close and reopen: you should see "read-error" or sth. like that placeholder images. Even the previously saved, not changed and reopened document had its content erased! This also occurs with Kazaa: file is downloaded 50 of 60 MB then Windows warns about low disk space, Kazaa says "Failed" and the whole file is gone! Perhaps this has sth. to do with files marked as opened in the operating system and some bug of Windows. But best prevent such a thing in OOo! (ie. no buffered write to disk but write immediately) The images I inserted and which got lost were metafiles pasted from PSP (there they were ps files).
TM->Lars: I assume youre trying to save those files on the same volume where the temp-folder is placed (maybe c:\). If this is true, it´s a known problem which can´t easily be solved. If there is enough space on the volume with the temp-folder and not enough at the drive where a recent saved document (which was edited) is going to be saved again, it remains untouched and no data is lost. The first case will be fixed for a staroffice8 and an appropiate OOo version.
first case is the case for me: correct
