Description samjam 2003-09-03 14:08:26 UTC
When I try and browse file-open by ftp (also behind a firewall) I get:
----
FTP Folder Error
An error occurred opening that folder on the ftp server. Make sure you have
permission to access the folder.

Details:
200 Type set to A.
500 Illegal PORT command.
500 LPRT not understood
----

The server is running ProFTPD Version 1.2.5
Also given firewall problems I wish it would try passive ftp first and only
fallback to active if passive is not supported

OK, and I know its not really a word processor bug but there doesn't seem to be
an obvious category for this bug.

Windows 2000+ and also 98 with "webfolders" installed support browsing
ftp sites in the file-open type dialogs, as well is windows
explorer-shell browsing of ftp site contents. In the file-open dialog
"Network places" browses such ftp sites as already configured.
Clicking on the desktops "network places" is one way to add more ftp
sites to network places.

If the invoking application dfoesn't make use of the right APIs, when
a remote file is opened windows fetches the file and passes a local
copy for read-only editing to the application.

I think OO should support these extensions, and when the user
specifies a new ftp site as OO currently supports this should be added
to the network-places ftp sites.

Here are docs on USE of such facilities within office:
http://it.exeter.edu/PDFs/WebFolderAccessonWindowsNT_9X.pdf

To show how important it is to integrate with windows remote-file
editing here is some notes on setting up apache2 to support DAV access:

I'll post some API docs on these extensions when I can find them

To grep the issues easier via "requirements" I put the issues currently lying on
