I am trying to record a macro.  I have a record macro button on my Tools-
>Macros toolbar, but the button is disabled.  I cannot find how to enable this 
button.

Sorry, macro recording is only possible in Writer and Calc. Thats why
you cannot get the button active. It is a bug that the help files
promise that it is possible. This misleading text is already being
handled. 
For having this functionality in Draw/Impress please  write a new
Issue with type "Feature".
