Description ssyz 2003-08-28 15:53:14 UTC
It's of course a stupid feature of MS Word: fields (like date, document
properties, page numbers ...) can be overwritten. Fortunately, Writer doesn't
support this "feature". So it's possible that a document contains different text
after importing to the Writer.

Reproducing the effect:
  - Create a new MS Word document
  - Insert the Field "subject" from the document properties
    (It should contain some text)
  - Place the cursor in the middle of the field. Write some text.
You can even remove the original field text.
  - Save it, import to the Writer
  - The original field text is shown.

Sometimes word users don't know that they are editing a field. I saw such
documents. This people will be confused when the document contains completly
different text after importing to OOo.

In my opinion it should not be possible to edit a field. At least not that easy.
Maybe another MS Word compatibility option will solve the problem.

Of course if you update your fields in word they will all loose their
user added changes as well. i.e. updating one by one, or with ctrl-A
F9, or if "update fields before printing" is enabled.
