Description Unknown 2003-08-27 11:59:02 UTC
When opening an existing file, the filename is defaulted to "UntitledX", where
X is a running number. This means that "Save" is not possible and therefore it
is only possible to "Save As", using the browse dialog to pick the original
file.

BTW, having a build number in the "About" dialog would be a good idea.

Unable to reproduce reported behavior. If possible, please provide
more information.

OK, the OOo version is 645m15 build 8669 for PC, and appears to be in
the wordprocessor as well as the spreadsheet. Open *any* existing
document, make any change and press the save button.

Normally I would expect this to save back to the same document without
asking me for the file name. OOo asks for the file name and does not
pre-fill the name. You have to re-type it or browse back to the
original document.

Could I have a rogue version, or can you think of anything that could
cause this behaviour on my PC?

BTW thanks for the great product. Really an amazing effort.

Rgds

OK, you're right - it does not do it all the time - I'll try and
narrow down what is causing it. Sorry for not noticing this earlier.

OK, I have been playing around with this a bit more and this is what I
have found:

 - If you open the file from an existing open OOo window using the
"File/Open" command, then everything is fine
 - If you open a document by clicking on it and autolaunching the OOo
application (even if the quick starter is active) the document does
not inherit the original file name. You can see this quite well if you
open a large document: the file name is preserved all the time that
the opening is happening, and then lost at what appears to be the
final stage of the loading process.
 - It happens with at least the spreadsheet and the word processor. I
have not played with the others.
 - If it helps, I work a lot with converted documents. I have not been
able to determine if this is significant. It appears to happen even
with fully native documents. If you like I can let you have a sample
of these, but I don't think it is a function of this.

Unable to reproduce reported behavior with .html, .doc, writer and
spreadsheet documents.

As both word processor and spreadsheet are involved I adjust the
component to Framework
Comment 7 Unknown 2003-09-09 07:49:23 UTC
Hi, would you like that I make a screencam of this - it is absolutely
repeatable.

Here is some more information that might be relevant:
 - I am on w2k/1.1rc3
 - I still have Word and Excel as the primary applications
 - Opening the files from "File/Open" does not cause the effect, only
when double clicking for launch
 - Could it have something to do with the fact that I have installed
and uninstalled each of the release candidates, and have run 1.0.3 and
1.1 in parallel?
 - This appears to be the same behavior as when opening a document
template - the file name is shown in the window header until the
document is open and then is changed to "UntitledX".

Sorry that this is being so awkward - if it's just me, I'll live with
the problem.

TM: This problem wasn´t reproducible as it is described here. So I set
it to "worksforme". Please check if the file isn´t read-only, locked
by a different user or a template. Feel free to reopen this issue if
there are more information available. Thanks !

I have this exact problem. Win 2K with all updates running on a Novell network
although same problem with local files. OOo 1.1 running alongside MS Office
XP. Installed OOo and requested change of association for word and excel
documents. Initially I believe that double clicking on a file worked but only
briefly. Now a double click results in a document containing the correct file
but it shows as Untitled and cannot be saved (save as is OK). File Open opens
the document OK so it seems to be in the handling of the file name as passed by
Windows. I love OOo but this is incredibly awkward as I have to open files
scattered around so File Open is a pain.
Comment 10 ttttrainuk 2004-02-05 14:12:38 UTC
Further to this I uninstalled and reinstalled and the associations worked
fine. I rebooted and the associations had gone. Using the Open With dialogue
opened the documents but as Untitled 1. In the File Types tab of Folder
Options SXW etc. are missing after the reboot. I was logged on as the same
user both times on the same machine so it is not a rights issue (am an
administrator on the local machine).
Possibly relevant is that I have a roaming profile via a Netware network so
I'll mention it.

TM->ttttrainuk: Does this problem still exist in a more recent build like a RC5
? Please mention which kind of installation (single user or network/client)
you´ve choosen and if localy saved files do cause this problem too.
Comment 12 ttttrainuk 2004-02-23 13:05:25 UTC
The install is a single user one and local files also load as untitled. The
current beta/pre-release (1.1.1 downloaded today) has the same problem.
Incidentally, the same problem does not occur on PCs connected to the same
network as my laptop (all running 2000 with the same install).

Comment 14 thorsten.martens 2004-04-27 14:22:50 UTC
Checked again in a recent 680m32 build and the problem wasn´t reproducible.
Sounds like a missconfigured system to me.
