Description dannemare 2003-08-26 23:50:12 UTC
Hi,

OpenOffice.org 1.1 (1.0.99+1.1rc-1, Debian Sid) doesn't print when CUPS (v1.1.9,
Debian Sid) is configured to output 2 document pages on a single printed page.

Output from /var/log/cups/error_log:

Printing from a KDE apps (e.g. konqueror) is not a problem with the mentioned
CUPS setting turned on (put 2 doc pages on 1 printed page).

I didn't get a chance to try setting cups loglevel to debug for several reasons,
but I will as soon as possible. I'll keep you posted on what debug loglevel says...

Please use File->Page Preview to print multiple pages on one printed
page. CUPS is not directly supported in OOo 1.1. A crashing CUPS
backend is more likely a case for the CUPS developers than an
OpenOffice.org issue; unless it turns out that the PostScript produced
by OOo is somehow wrong. Please try to print to file and see if
ghostscript shows a problem in the PostScript file; if not i think
this is more likely to be a CUPS problem.
Comment 2 dannemare 2003-08-28 15:25:28 UTC
The PostScript produced by OOo seems fine. Guess you're right about it
being a CUPS problem rather than a problem with OOo. I'll mention it
to the CUPS devels.

Btw, thanks for the hint on using File->Page Preview in OOo to print
multiple pages on one printed page. But shouldn't there be a more
obvious way to do this directly via the File->Print dialog (or maybe I
have just overlooked it)?

Anyway, feel free to close this one...

I agree that it's not obvious. But i have no clear idea what should
look like instead; the GNOME and KDE dialogues at least have the
advantage that you are bound to see the preview button in the print
dialogue though i'm not sure whether it's obvious to look for a print
preview under file->print. If you have any suggestions please write an
issue to lho@openoffice.org who's involved in UI decisions.

seems to work, please file eventual requests for enhancements in a
separate issue.
