Description chris 2003-08-26 08:28:30 UTC
Hi Caolan,

I've got a WW8 roundtrip problem - I hope it is ok to assign to you.
I've attached a sample. Save and reload in Word 97 format, and the second
paragraph becomes unreadable (black text on black background).

Style 1: Background colour=black
Style 2: Linked to style 1, background colour=white

Style 2 looses it's background during WW8 roundtrip. .sxw format is ok.

Tested on Debian using our RC3 packages.

Comment 2 caolanm 2003-08-26 10:53:01 UTC
Yeah I see it, "no colour" bg doesn't get exported. So styles based on
coloured ones which remove it don't roundtrip alright. Fixed in
killarneyfilterteam13 for 2.0

Backport of fix to 1.1 RC3
Comment 4 chris 2003-08-27 13:35:48 UTC
Thanks for the fix. I backported it to 1.1 and verified that the
document now saves correctly. I've attached the patch.

Is there any reason why this can't be included in 1.1[.1]?
Comment 5 caolanm 2003-08-27 13:45:32 UTC
Theres no immediate technical reason I can see, but I'm a very
cautious man. There may be *some* reason which isn't apparent why it
wasn't simply implemented like this in the first place. I'd prefer to
fix for 2.0, let it stew there for a while to stress test it, and then
if it proves itself not have to unexpected knock-on effects and there
is a desire for 1.1.1 we can backport it then.

Checked with CWS killarneyfilterteam13.
Comment 9 chris 2003-11-04 09:59:23 UTC
Do you think we could apply this for 1.1.1 now? This has been in the
Debian/Ximian builds for quite a while now and I haven't had any
reports of problems in this area.

Thanks,
Chris

No, this won't make its way into 1.1.1. We now only add VERY important
or famous issues to 1.1.1.

Changed target to OO 1.1.1. Will be fixed there.
Comment 13 pratesi 2004-01-07 14:59:03 UTC
Alas, it seems that the export-bg-style.diff patch fixes
the reported problem but causes another weird problem :-(((

I am attaching the following three files:

- ooo111a-test.sxw: a test document that evidences the problem
I am reporting (this document has been prepared entirely
  with OOo Writer)

- ooo111a-test.doc: the .doc export obtained with OOo 1.1.1a

- ooo111a-test-reversedpatch.doc: the .doc export obtained
with OOo 1.1.1a with the export-bg-style.diff patch reversed

- Image2.gif: a screenshot showing how the two attached .doc's
  are shown by MSWord XP

It seems that, in ooo111a-test.doc, the black background is due
to the fact that the background of the corresponding style
is not set to "No color", i.e. it is undefined... and MSWordXP
shows it as black :-(
