Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 18585
add ability to open & save compressed files (gz & bz2)
Last modified: 2013-08-07 15:31:33 UTC
I went to load the file fhs-2.2.txt.gz ("Filesystem Hierarchy Standard") obtained from the above URL, and I got a few funny characters in OpenOffice. The file is 28.8K, and the uncompressed file is 105.7K - a 73% saving in space. I think that OpenOffice should be able to automatically load such files, and also be able to save to them. My intention was to load it in and change the font and save it again.
Reassigned to BH
bzip2 supports smaller compressed files. Could this be done seamlessly on all platforms?
This should not be in component "Word processor", it is general for all saving and loading.
original summary: "add facility to load and save in bzip & bzip2" setting keywords, reassigning according to new RFE-process

Seconded - esp for imports of all those pesky M$-Office files which consume ample amounts of space, but only need to be there for reference (ie, read-only). Thanks!
