Description lduperval 2003-08-22 13:34:44 UTC
I would like to be able to set tabs at relative positions. I.e. at 50% (which
would be in the middle), at 100% (which would be at the far right), etc.
That way, if you set your document to use columns or if you change the
margins on each side of the paragraph, the formatting wouldn't be lost.

Sounds like a good idea. I thought about such things as "page right",
"page center" and "page left" but I realized that sometimes I need
tabs evenly spaced at 1/4th or 1/5th margins and didn't want to use
tables to do it (spacing problems make tables a nightmare). The text
doesn't get put where I want it, but having something like this (put a
"%" after the position under the Tab tab to make them percentages)
would certainly make my life easier.

I had a situation with needing spacing that went like this:

Left tab at left margin.
Center tab at 1/4th page width.
Left tab at 1/2 page width.
Right tab at right margin.

I got it right, eventually, but it took me a long time of measuring,
printing, checking, changing tab positions, printing, checking and
repeating over and over until it was right. Your suggested
enhancement would be a decided improvement.

To grep the issues easier via "requirements" I put the issues currently lying on
my owner to the owner "requirements".

Tabs can be positioned freely on the ruler.
