Description hfinger 2001-10-10 08:18:27 UTC
StarOffice 6.0 beta team:

My apologies for submitting this StarOffice defect to OpenOffice.org, but
corporate network policy prevents me from accessing
<news://starnews.sun.com/staroffice.com.betatest.install.windows>.

I have used StarOffice 5.2 and found it very good. So I jumped at the chance
to try SO6.0b. However, I cannot get it to launch.

WHAT I DID

1	Downloaded set of 10 files (excluding Adabas and SOPlayer).

2	Launched setup and selected the minimum configuration.

3	Installed JRE 1.3.1 from within the SO installer and selected that
JVM as the one to be run by SO.

3	Double-clicked the desktop shortcut and launched StarOffice 6.0 beta.

The StarOffice splash screen appeared, then a "soffice.exe --
Application
Error" dialogue with the following message:

"The instruction at '0x1d7ad396' referenced memory at '0x00000000'.
The
memory could not be 'read'." (This message appears consistently each
time
 	a launch is attempted.)

4	Clicked the Cancel button and Dr Watson created a memory dump and a
crash log.

Previously cleared all dumps and logs so that the new files would
contain
evidence related only to trying to launch StarOffice.

A Zip archive containing the dump and the log has been sent to
support@openoffice.org.

[StarOffice 6.0 (?), Windows 2000, Gateway GP7-PIII, JRE 1.3.1]

set component to installation

I can't reproduce this startup crash. It looks like a problem of the damaged download files on sun server.
I've nerver seen a Beta that isn't starting on Windows, this is a
showstopper and won't leave the building.

Works for me.
