Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 18484
OO freezes in online layout
Last modified: 2003-09-08 16:56:16 UTC
When an sxw document is opened in online layout, OOo11rc3 becomes extremely unstable and freezes soon. However, if you make a simple file with a few characters, it does not seem to happen. So, the problem is not abundant with all sxw-files, but it was abundant with the two first files that I worked with for professional reasons - and on two different linux-distributions: Redhat9.0 and Knoppix3.2. You can reproduce this freezing bug by using one of my files on this link: http://www.bjerke.dk/bjerkeswpat10.sxw 1. Open it. 2. Wiev > online layout 3. Change to another desktop and OO freezes. Probably, the bug is not abundant in Windows, since windows does not have several desktops.
Does not happen with my installation (linux using KDE2.2.2). Could it be a feature of the Window Manager?
Unable to reproduce RH9/KDE/1.1rc3
I run kde-3.1-10 on the Redhat9.0 box (my laptop with knoppix has hardware problems). It sound reasonable that it is some interaction with kde3.1. I think it only freezes for several minuttes. Before I sent the bug report I tried the bug again, and OO froze as expected. But, the last time I did not kill OO because I made some other work. Now, having received your additional comments I returned to OO, and it seems to work in online layout and with two windows open with the file I linked to in my bug report. But, having it at two different desktops made it freeze when I shifted. I have recognised similar phenomena with OO1.1rc2 and OO1.1rc1: It often took a couple of minuttes to shift from one window to another window of the same file in online layout mode on different desktops. So, perhaps it a combination of using two or more windows in online layout and shifting desktops that makes problems. I have 376 MB RAM and 700 Mhz via processor. My swap is a bit too small. Here is a "cat /proc/swaps" while the OO is frozen: /dev/hda15 partition 128480 128480 -1 /mnt/lager-a19/swap file 204792 42620 -2 So my swap is far from fully used even though OO freezes.
Does OOo really freeze or does it "only" take very long to be usable again? If OOo really freezes -> issue 11081 (as well not reproducible) If OOo is back after a while: -> issue 16419 or issue 12305 In any case duplicate.
