Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 18381
tool to create regular polygons in draw
Last modified: 2014-09-11 18:51:48 UTC
I've just had a bit of a marathon task creating various regular polygons in OO.o draw. I had to use snap points and a fair bit of trig to get the vertices in the right places. So... a suggestion. Perhaps it'd be useful to have a 'create regular polygon' tool in OO.o draw. Draw a bbox, enter the number of vertices into the dialog, and *bing* in goes your made-to-order polygon. Most other draw apps have this, and IMHO it's a pretty important/handy feature, depending admittedly on what you need to do.
Reassigned to Bettina.
DannysDrawPowerTools macro has the ability to draw regular polygons and a lot more. The current behaviour of drawing polygons while holding the shift key has been discussed on users@openoffice.org Subj:"regular hexagon in Draw". Some people have assumed that a regular polygon is being drawn - this is what happens in all the other programs I know of, but not in Draw. I'd suggest that rather than a new tool, what might be better would be to modify the behaviour to fall in line with other drawing programs, so that regular polygons are drawn.
Can confirm in OOo 2.0.139. A regular hexagon should not fit in a square. With any given side flat, the ratio of height to width is sqrt(3):2.
OO should absolutely draw regular polygons and stars. The height:width ratio when holding shift for triangles, hexagons, and 6-stars should be sqrt(3)/2, the ratio for pentagons and 5-stars should be sqrt((5+sqrt(5))/8).
To grep the issues easier via "requirements" I put the issues currently lying on my owner to the owner "requirements".
The corresponding element in ODF is draw:regular-polygon.
