I have recently upgraded to OOo 1.1 from 1.0.3. 

In 1.0.3 when I clicked file in the menu bar the dropdown had a new option. If 
I highlighted that option a sub menu appeared to the right where I could choose 
the type of new file (writer / spreadsheet / drawing / presentation) I wished 
to launch. I find that in 1.1 there is no sub menu. Similarly clicking the new 
icon on the function bar also does nothing. Control+N however opens a new file 
of the same type. ie if I press control+N while working on a spreadsheet it 
opens a new spreadsheet file.

Hi,

I could not reproduce this behaviour using OOo1.1rc3.

Please try a repair of your installation by starting the setup again
and choose repair as option.
