Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 1821
Selection of resolution of TIFF exporting
Last modified: 2013-08-07 15:40:43 UTC
Exporting drawings to TIFF format gives very poor results, because it doesn't let you set the resolution of the resulting TIFF. TIFF has two important parameters: The printing size (it has to be the same of the stardraw document or selection) and the resolution, that determines the TIFF quality. If we can only export 72 dpi TIFFs, it will only be useful for displaying, but not for printing.
Are we planning an interactive tiff-export with dialog as we do i.e. for bmp?
What do you think, Sven?
This is a general problem, currently no graphic filter is supporting a user defined resolution. Due to the fact that this feature is missing for all filters, a universal concept must been made. This is a really important enhancement, but it can't been implemented within a short time. Major code changes are required. Thanks, Sven
This bug is still annoying users years later, an example is this bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/276509 The export of the selection to png does not look as good as what it shows up as displayed on the users screen.
The central issue for this problem is issue 4499.
This issue has been fixed for OOo3.4. If you use a developer version (dev300m88 and greater) then you will be able to chose a resolution if exporting to tif.
