Description alienthrylos 2003-08-05 09:54:24 UTC
Hi
It would be great if future versions of Open Office could read and save into more formats like
Lotus smart suite and Corel Office. But more important it would be great to read and save
Koffice documents. After all this is another GPL office so adding support for this should be
easy. It is ironic that currently the only shared format is the ms-office format. Finally it would
be really usefull to export to tex and latex. I find that Open Office has the best math formula
editor so there has to be an option to export to latex.

Thank you for supporting OOo and for posting your bug here. The bug
you have filed should actually be broken down into several separate
bugs (read Lotus Smart Suite, save in Lotus Smart Suite, read Corel,
save in Corel, etc.). There are already such bugs filed for Lotus,
Corel, KWord, and Latex (and AbiWord, for that matter). There is
active development on Corel import/export filters. I don't know about
the Lotus, KWord, and Latex.

The component for this issue should be changed to "word processor"
("www" is just for web site issues). Issue type should be changed to
"enhancement". The issue should then be closed as either "invalid"
(since it encompasses several disparate issues) or be marked as
duplicate as one of the more specific import/export filter requests,
such as issue 3403 (Latex filter request).

I did some changes as asked

Yet by changing the component into word processor i don't want to exclude the
other components of open office.
Suites like kword and corel Office don't have only a word processor. They have a
spreadsheet, a presenter and other components. I would like from the future
releases of openoffice to be able to open and save into every format. The writer
should be able to read and save into kword format and the calc to read and save
into whatever format.
As i stated before Koffice is open sourced so you can take the code and add
support for it quite easily.
But should i reassign this issue to the owner of the selected subcomponent?

Reassign issue to owner of selected subcomponent

Hi
i am reassigning this to you. You can read the history of this issue. I believee that
it it would be very useful to add latex and koffice filters to openoffice. The latter
doesn't only include adding kword filters to the writer but also every koffice filter to
openoffice (kpresenter to Impress, kspread to calc etc). Koffice is GPLed so it's
going to be easy to add koffice support to openoffice. Openoffice should be able to
read and save into koffice format.

Thank you for changing the compoenent.

The proper way to handle this bug is to break it down into chunks. As
i mentioned, there are already bugs open for OOo Writer import and
export filters for KWord, Latex, WordPerfect, SmartSuite, and AbiWord.
So, as a word processor bug this issue is entirely redundant. So, this
bug should be closed as either invalid or as a duplicate of one of the
bugs i mentioned.

If there are specific filters you want for the other OOo components,
you need to file those as separate bugs, like this:

- add KSpread export filter
- add KSpread import filter
- add KPresenter export filter
- add KPresenter import filter

When doing this it is important to search for duplicates first, as
some of these requests have probably already been filed.

Just to put this in perspective, since the KOffice file formats aren't
very prevelant, getting OOo to add import and export filters for them
will probably require someone from the community with the requisite
skills taking them on as a personal or small group project. This is
what is happening with the WordPerfect filter effort.

thank you for your instructions. I plan to file separate issues as you instructed. I
believe that koffice support should be relatively easy since koffice is released
under gpl and this will allow openoffice developers to copy koffice code.
