When I have OOo running and open a new file - either a file in konqueror or an
attachment in mozilla - OOo opens this file as expected but then creates another
empty instance. No big issue just a little bothering.

This does not happen if additional files are opened via the OOo menu (File/Open...).

The machine is RH9, kernel 2.4.21, KDE 3.1.3.

This was a known problem and has already been fixed in a more recent
internal version. Should therefor also be fixed in the next OO version
(RC3 ?)

Still persists in RC3.

Tested under RH9, kernel 2.4.21, KDE 3.1.3.
