Description rblackeagle 2003-07-31 00:23:36 UTC
Some problems exist with RC2 which require running "Repair" periodically. Each
time "Repair" is run, most (but not all) settings under Tools > Options are
reset to default values. In particular, User Data is blank and several other
settings throughout the Options are restored to the default values.

Expected: "Repair" should fix broken files but not remove user data.

What's right? The summary or the description? Please list a few
settings that are removed.
Comment 2 rblackeagle 2003-07-31 18:31:51 UTC
Sorry, you'd think a professional writer and former English teacher
could communicate.

The "Repair" option removes all User settings (Tools > OpenOffice.org
> User Data). It also loses several other settings (such as loading
and saving MS documents -- the checklists), colored tabs, time for
helper to stay up, font replacements, etc, etc -- way too many to list.

That means that every time I run "Repair" (needed because the File >
New periodically fails to bring up the sub-menu), I lose my settings
(almost everything is reset to the defaults it had when I first
installed it) and have to run Tools > Options and re-input my user
options.

What I had expected was more on the line of 1.0.1 where "Repair" left
the user options alone.

I've checked with the current inhouse version (m15): I can reproduce
that the user data are removed but haven't found an other setting that
has been removed (personalized bars, background colour settings). AK
will decide wether we will have this as 1.1 or as 1.1.1 target,
depends on the risks to fix. So I think that we will start with 1.1.1,
but we might raise the target.

The latest version only clears the user data entered during setup (
like adress, name, etc. )
Comment 5 rblackeagle 2003-08-05 20:03:13 UTC
I take it that RC3 or 1.1 will have it fixed, in which case, it seems
fine to me. If it's already been fixed for a new release, then it
could be changed to FIXED and be done with it.

You had asked what got reset to default. As I use a lot of the
default settings, I can't answer that completely, but here is a list
just in case it proves useful.

Lost on "Repair"

File Menu -- recently opened list
OpenOffice.org
   User Data -- all
   View -- Colored tabs
   External Programs -- all
   Paths -- defaults restored
Accessibility -- Help tips disappear time reverts to default
(Cannot comment on other tabs as I use the defaults)

Load/Save
   General -- reverts to default
   Microsoft Office -- all blank
HTML Compatibility -- reverts to default

Language Settings
Languages -- reverts to default ("Options" must be closed and
reopened to show CTL section)
Writing Aids -- hyphenization reverts to default. All others stay.

Internet -- what I use has reverted to default

Text Document
General -- Compatibility is grayed out and has stayed that way
since my last repair -- it is inaccessible
View -- "Guides" reverts to default. Other settings remain as
selected.

Other items I either use defaults or were retained -- it is erratic in
what reverts and what does not.
Comment 7 dirk.voelzke 2003-08-11 10:53:04 UTC
Already fixed, only user data like name and adress will be cleared.
Comment 8 dirk.voelzke 2003-08-11 10:53:55 UTC
Please verify, that only name / address will be cleared.
Comment 9 atr 2003-08-13 11:02:46 UTC
ATR: I checked this in the latest internal OOo version, bug is fixed.

As stated, only user data changed. Works -- thanks.
