Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 17545
Pressing End at the end of paragraph resets font while editing MS Word
Last modified: 2004-04-21 19:57:37 UTC
Minor, but kind of annoying. I load a Word (XP version) document with OpenOffice, go to the end of a paragraph, and hit End. (I have to already be at the end of the paragraph and then hit End for this to occur.) The font resets from 12pt Times New Roman to 10pt Times New Roman, just at the point of the cursor, so that if I type at the end of the line after that, it is at 10pt. The Undo icon lights up with "Undo: Stop attribute". This happens with files I created from a .dot file. However, if I create a new file in 12pt Times New Roman using OpenOffice 1.1rc2, that document does not have this problem. I can give sample files that do and do not reproduce this problem. I have seen this bug in Writer versions 1.0.1, 1.0.2, 1.0.3, 1.1rc, and 1.1rc2. I kept hoping it would go away but it hasn't, so I thought I'd report this bug.
Created attachment 8099 [details] Files to show the end-of-line problem (and lack thereof)
I can Reproduce the problem on OpenOffice 1.1 RC5(default Install, US), Win XP Pro Sp1. (And MS Office XP Sp2). It is real problem to reproduce: open the file with OOo, put the cursor after paragraph. and press end button, it will change the Font I Update the version to RC5.
FME: This has been implemented intentionally. Pressing 'end' or 'right arrow' at the end of a paragraph resets all hard formattings and changes the font to the default font for the paragraph. Please have a look at i9520.
utomo, please stop changing the version field. This is not a bug, but a feature. You're passing the invisible Format-Character that contains the hard formatting of the text. Better update the style to change the fontsize than assigning it explicitly. duplicate. from issue 9520 ------- Additional Comments From Michael Brauer 2003-01-29 23:39 PST ------- Martin, what you call a bug is in fact a very useful feature since many years. If you are at the end of the paragraph that has some hard formatting attributes assigned and press the cursor right key, you move behind the attributes first. The next time you press the cursor right key, you move in the next paragraph. That's a very clear behavior, and I don't think that it is anoying. In fact, it is very useful. Consider the situation where a hyperlink ends at the end of a paragraph, and you want to enter some text. How do you do that? You either can use some menus and switch of the hyperlink, or you press the right cursor key once, and can enter your text directly. With the knowledge what happens when pressing the right cursor key, can you please describe why you still think this behavior is anoying. From my point of view, it very seldom happens that hard formatting attributes are at the end of a paragraph, because most paragraph end with a ".", and this character normally will not carry hard attributes. *** This issue has been marked as a duplicate of 9520 ***

info no changes in OOo 1.1.1 and still at level unconfirmed at the http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=13995 which had been opened to substitute this one. mh
no need to keep duplicates alive. Only add comments to the original issue. But please make sure you did have a look at the target-milestone.
