Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 17538
Using mouse to resize tables and margins doesn't respect grid settings
Last modified: 2013-02-07 22:35:26 UTC
It is impossible to get precise sized margins and tables by using the mouse to resize them. Sizing them with the mouse is smooth, and doesn't respect the grid settings. However resizing other objects, e.g. frames, uses the grid settings. IMO this is an inconsistency in the UI of Writer. Try setting a 2cm margin around a page just using the mouse, or make a table that is exactly 10cm wide.

MRU->OS: was is ever planned to have the table snapping to the grid?
No, it was never planned. And the help text also refers to moving of frames, objects and form controls, only. This is an enhancement, not a defect.
Question is, if really makes sense tables snapping to the grid. As long as it is only possible to resize tables horizontally, it is very doubtful, IMO.
I wanted to post this issue: "When dragging the margins, they should snap to the grid, just like everything else. Take care that overriding this with Ctrl works." But I searched, and I found that it had already been reported. Apparently it's quite a glaring bug. Of course it should apply to tables as well. Without grid- snapping you cannot accurately set any size with the mouse and it's very annoying to have to drudge through the dialogs again and again.
