Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 17516
numbering missing an option to number using the Hebrew alphabet
Last modified: 2013-08-07 15:00:08 UTC
footnote numbering missing an option to number using the Hebrew alphabet, althugh Arabic and Thai options are present. to repro: * make sure that you have your OO set up to support Hebrew * tools--footnotes--autnumbering: look for an option to use Hebrew numerals
DL->FT: Would you please takeover?
.
This is not restricted on Footnotes only. We need to have such entries in general.
DL->FT: Would you please provide a spec on this?
There is no real spec needed for this. AFAIU wherever we can manipulate numbering, no matter if in footnotes, in TOC or whatsoever, we will use the same list of available numbering formats. FT->SF: please provide/implement a list of used numbering lists for Hebrew.
sorry for the dealy- I will try to get to writing the document this week.
*** Issue 20294 has been marked as a duplicate of this issue. ***
not just foot notes but all. yes, the document will be uploaded later today

Created attachment 10768 [details] the Hebrew numbering system
Add Hebrew numbering to OO.o. Hebrew numbering must be treated the same as Thai and Arabic numbering is (not visible when CTL support is disabled). Please see Shosannah's postings. Please give approval for this evaluated OO.o 2.0 flagged issue. If you confirm with the target OO.o 2.0, then please keep it on your owner (or the owner of the concerning developer) for implementation. In case you want this issue for 'OOo Later', then please reset the target milestone. If you decline the issue finally, please set the resolution to 'Wontfix' (but do not close). In case of 'OOo Later' or 'Wontfix' please reset it on Bettina's owner. Thank you.
This is a job for I18N. Reassigned to Karl Hong
Will add Hebrew alphabet list.
According to 'The Hebrew Numbering System' in http://people.netscape.com/smontagu/writings/HebrewNumbers.html There are two numbering system for us to implement, 1. The alphabetical system, which uses 22 letters of the alphabet in sequence, similar to English alphabet letter A, B, ..., AA, AB, ... What bug submitter refer to Arabic and Thai options in footnote is for this system. 2. The numerical system, which uses 22 letters to present different number. The spec document attached in this bug, created by sforbes is for this system. The first system is relatively simple, I will fix it in cws i18n09. The second system is similar to CJK native numbering, or number spellout. The spec has explained how to form small number, less than 10,000, I am still not clear how to present large number. I will create another bug for implementing this system in Native Numbering service.
Add Hebrew alphabetical list in cws i18n09.
verified in i18n09.
SBA: Verified in CWS i18n09.
SBA: Set to verified.

This numbering system is the one more widely used, so we do need to have it in OOo
SBA: OK in build 680m34. Closed SBA->Sforbes: To ensure that Karl did file another issue, feel free to query around a little :-) - Or mail him directly. He is not on CC of this one so he probably won't read your comment.
For the record, the other bug mentioned here is issue #23372
