Description peterhb 2003-07-26 18:10:36 UTC
Any OpenOffice.org natively created spreadsheets that include the current time
in the Header, or Footer, and are subsequently saved in MS Excel 2000 format,
cannot be usefully printed in Excel due to the appearance of large (288 pt),
apparently random digits that are superimposed on all pages, obscuring the
original content. These digits appear to be time related as they seem to
correspond to the 'minutes' value at the time of saving.

Hi Daniel,

The header is exported as "&C&1011:00:00" which should mean center
part (&C), font height 10 (&10), and following text "11:00:00" (if it
is now 11:00:00 of course). Problem: Excel interprets this as font
height 1011 and following text ":00:00". Excel itself would add a
space in this case: "&10 11:00:00". But even more serious here: the
time field is converted to text, correct export would be "&C&T" which
means center part with time field.

Major problem: all text fields are converted to plain text
Minor problem: no space between font height and text starting with a
number.
Minor problem: default font height can be omitted ( "&C&T" instead of
"&C&10&T").

@submitter:
A quick workaround for you is to add a space character before the text
field: " [TIME]".

First problem (text fields) fixed in OOo 1.1. Remaining problems to be
fixed in OOo 1.1.1.

Thanks for the workaround which solves my immediate problem.

I assume that ALL fields in headers and footers will be subject to the
fix? Page Numbers, Number of Pages and Filename are all wrong on
export to Excel format, indeed the Filename disappears in my case!
Apologies that I didn't diagnose the issue to this depth innitially.

Regards

Peter HB

Yes, all fields are broken, and the fix repairs all of them.
