This also happens for me, in both RC1 and RC2. Also on SuSE Linux 8.2, 
glibc is 2.3.2-6. I'm using the compiled download from the website.  
 
I also tried compiling RC1 with gcc 3.3 but the same thing happened. 
(Although when I tried to compile it complained that libstdc++.so.3 wasn't 
there, so I symlinked it to libstdc++.so.5)
