Description johnmcatee 2003-07-24 16:32:15 UTC
I created Calc sheet with data. Saved and closed sheet. Created Writer
document and did Insert> Object> OLE Object...> I selected to Insert
OpenOffice.org 1.1 Spreadsheet and selected "Create from File" then browsed to
the saved file. Clicked OK. Data was inserted correctly. When I double
clicked on the OLE object in Writer, the display showed the spreadsheet oblect
then OpenOffice locked up. Win 2000 stated program was not responding and I
clicked "End Now". This shut down Writer and Quickstarter. This has happened
during 4 attempts. Some of the attempts also when I updated the spreadsheet
the corresponding Write document was not updated.

Thank you for the chance to help OpenOffice improve.

Please Attach the documents which make this problem, so we can test
it/faster to confirm.
(Without the documents, we cannot confirm the problem easily/need more
time)
Don't forget to cut other part of the documents, so the file size is
small, but we still able to see the problem.

Please try using the latest OpenOffice 1.1 Final , you can download it
from www.openoffice.org
many bug fixes and enhancements since your version and 1.1 Final . If
the problem still happend in 1.1 please report back
It maybe not yet solve your Issue, but it worth to try.

Hi John,

I can not see any relation to DDE in your reports, it seems you had a
OLE problem, and so I tested that and made the summary more meaningful.

If you really had a DDE- Problem, please head UTOMO's advice for a
_new_ issue.

I attached a testkit with error report.

I checked with 1.1.0 German version WIN98SE: 645m19(Build8693)

Steps to reproduce:

1. Unzip testkit
2. Open 'testtext1.sxw'
3. pt cursor between textlines
4. Menu: "Insert - Object - OLE"
5. Select "From File"
6. Select attached file 'Defect_Statistic.sxc'
7. OK
Expected: Spreadsheet should be inserted "somehow"
Actual: OOo hangs / crashes (pls see attached bug report as .sxw
The writer document is destroyed forever, I was not able to
           open it (please try 'testtext.sxw'

Of course the question is, for what it might be useful to insert a
document like 'Defect_Statistic.sxc', but our religion must be "OOo
never crashes", and so this is serious.

I will additionally check a "normal" small spreadsheet.

I also tried another spreadsheet, much to big for 1 writer page, but
with contents only in sheet 1 and without chart. This spreadsheet did
not cause any problems, when I inserted in as described in my step by
step instruction.

Until now we can not be sure that really the chart in the spreadsheet
causes the problem.

John, if this is "your" problem, may be you would like to vote for it?

May be "framework" would be a better component?

Rainer -> Utomo: statistics does not look so bad, doesn't it? ;-)

HI->MRU: Maybe dublicate as Crashreporter which you have in process.
Comment 6 Rainer Bielefeld 2003-11-06 07:01:46 UTC
For the testkit I can say definitively that the problem disappears if
you use 'Defect_Statistic.sxc' after you deleted the chart from it;
the problem really seems to be the chart.

MRU->FME: I can see a different problem... when I create an OLE object
from the .sxc in the attached archieve, I get a loop...
