Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 17150
java not found during installation
Last modified: 2003-09-08 16:53:51 UTC
Windows98, 1.1RC During installation jvmsetup.exe doesn't find java run time envinroment. After fiddling around for awhile, the directory which finally makes the installer happy is in "c:\program files\javasoft\JRE\1.3.0_01" This directory has a \bin and \lib subdirectories and a few license and readme files. When I tried to find a runtime enviroment I assumed the installer was looking for a secific file name or extension. The "help" button on the installer tells to find the root directory (Javahome). It would be useful, especially for semi-skilled users such as myself, if the "Help" hint said the Javahome directory contains only other directories.
The java requirement have been raised for OOo 1.1. See feature mail: StarOffice and OpenOffice now need a SUN Java 1.4.0_02 or higher. The exception is version 1.4.1 which is not supported, but version 1.4.1_01 and higher are. This requirement is valid for these platforms: -Solaris SPARC -Linux x86 -Windows Reason for this requirement is that new features, such as accessibility, depend on the new versions.
