Description philmperry 2003-07-13 02:49:49 UTC
Set up a database with at least 4 columns. In Data>Subtotals define grouping 1
to be the AVERAGE, grouping 2 to be the SUM, and grouping 3 to be the COUNT (all
three are grouping on the same field). Remove groupings 2 and 3 (leaving
grouping 1). When OK is pressed, the function changes from AVERAGE to SUM.

I could not reproduce this problem. Please retry with a newer version
of OOo (OOo 605 was a really early testbuild)
Comment 2 philmperry 2003-08-08 23:17:25 UTC
Actually this was in 1.1 Beta 2, but I wasn't offered the choice in
the input panel of anything beyond 605 (IIRC, just 1.0.1, 1.0.2,
1.0.3, and 605). Maybe BugZilla was just having a bad day. Does that
change the analysis or was this fixed since Beta 2?

I suggest you create a simple file, just to show this, and explain it
step by step.
I already download your file but too many data, and not enough
explanantion.
I think you can just use some data, and in real calc file, if it is
calc problem. dont use the writer file

The machine I have OOo 1.1rc3 on is "isolated" with a bad floppy disk
drive and a bad LAN connection, so I can't give you an .sxc file. Note
that issue 16764 is closely related and the fix for that may also fix
this reported problem. BTW, can't Calc import a comma-delimited file?
It should be simple to edit the file I provided to clear out all but
the data lines and then add commas. That would save having to type it
in by hand.

Hi Phil,

according to the attached txt file I've seen the problem you are
facing. But this is not a bug of Calc.

If you go to Data Subtotals and then to 2'nd Group, the function for
the highlighted subtotal is shown. If you select munchies or
thirstees, the selected function is shown.

So I have to close this one as invalid. Sorry.

I am reopening this issue because you didn't get the point I was
trying to make. For "Munchies", the second function is showing SUM
instead of COUNT:

                      Munchies Thirstees
Littletown Result 312 6 <-- function 2 s/b 6 6 (COUNT)
Littletown Result 312 820 <-- function 1 SUM correct

There is no reason to show in function 2 (the first line) the SUM for
Munchies and the COUNT for Thirstees, when COUNT was requested for both:

Group 1: group by City
     [ ] Store function : SUM
     [ ] City
     [ ] Street
     [ ] Type
     [X] Munchies
     [X] Thirstees

Group 2: group by City
     [ ] Store function : COUNT
     [ ] City
     [ ] Street
     [ ] Type
     [X] Munchies
     [X] Thirstees

The same thing happens if I choose AVERAGE for Group 2 instead of
COUNT. By the way, it's probably confusing to users that 1) there are
no labels on the "Result" lines to say what the function is, 2) the
functions are displayed in reverse order of how they were defined, and
3) only one of the functions gets a "Grand Total" line (see issue 18331).

Hi Phil,

you have to specify the function for each subtotal, e.g. for munchies
you have to select it and *also* for thirstees.

Closed invalid therefore.
