Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 16443
vertical or horizontal constraint for dimension lines
Last modified: 2013-02-07 22:41:48 UTC
Hi, this is a feature request: The current dimension-lines feature of OO-draw has limited use-ability, because it is not possible to create horizontal or vertical dimensions for *non-vertically or non-horizontally aligned points*. When drawing a dimension line between two points which are offset in *both* X and Y, it is normally desirable to have the dimension line indicate *either* the X *or* the Y dimension, not the diagonal length, X**2 + Y**2. I'll attach an example drawing to illustrate good and bad dimensioning. Obviously I don't expect OO-draw to be a full like specialised CAD program, but since it's got a "dimensions" feature, this feature should at least be made useful. In it's current implementation, drawing horizontal/vertical dimensions is way too fiddly. The developers should take a look at a 2D CAD program to see how *useful* dimension-lines are created (e.g. www.qcad.org) cheers, Bryan
Created attachment 7402 [details] Shows how vertical or horizontal dimensions should look.
Reassigned to Bettina.
I have seen that this issue was assigned to 1.1beta2 and has no target milestone. Furthermore I have seen that there was no entry since July 2003. Have you tried a newer version like 1.1.3, 1.1.4rc or some 1.9.xx, if it is implemented there? If so: Could this issue be closed by the original reporter?
Hmmm. I just downloaded and installed OOo-1.9.62. The Dimension Lines feature appears to have been completely removed. Is this permanent? As a scientist, OOo-Draw is *great* for technical drawings. Vertical and Horizontal dimension lines would be a huge enhancement in this area, however (althouth the old style dimension lines were not that useful, for the reasons I already explained).
Sorry for the delay ... I cannot tell you if the Dimension Line feature is disabled for some reason, removed or something ... :( I am just a QA-guy . .. ;)
This is a feature the user wants but does not have. Confirming it as a new enhancement issue.
You know, that you can constraint the directions by holding down shift-key while drawing?
To grep the issues easier via "requirements" I put the issues currently lying on my owner to the owner "requirements".
