a book was saved in 1.0.3 with dsum references in one sheet referencing other
sheets.

the dsum references worked correctly in 1.0.3.

when this sheet is opened in 1.1 beta the dsum references no longer work
yielding err : 504 messages.

furthermore attempts to reinstate the dsum formulas in the sheet under 1.1 beta
fail.

is the dsum formula broken?

I assume the difference is in using regular expressions in your
formulars. As this feature was missing in OOo1.0 and is implemented
for OOo1.1 (as it is in StarOffice), functions which have such
expressions in their parameter could give another result now. For
getting the old result you can turn it off by
TOOLS-OPTIONS-SPREADSHEET-CALCULATE-ENABLE REGULAR EXPRESSIONS IN
FORMULARS.
If this doesn't solve your problem, please reopen this issue and
attach a sample document.
