Description Unknown 2003-06-19 02:45:38 UTC
Recreated steps:

1. Launch an application, for example Text Document, and new a document
2. Input some words that don't be recognized by OpenOffice.org dictionary. For
example:
Wdl
Wdl
Wdl
Wdl
3. Press F7, then spellcheck dialog appears
4. Make sure the 'Backwords' check box is selected
5. Click 'Always Replace' button
6. Select Yes button when a dialog pops up and ask you 'Contine checking at end
of document?'
Then the application crashes.

Doesn't crash on my system.

Actually, the phenomena is that application is hung out; you have to
kill the process to exit the application.

The issue is reproduced. Please following the steps strictly. The key
point here is that you have to make sure the text you input can't be
recognized by OOo's dictionary, so that the spell check dialog can
pop up for you to select 'Backwards' to do 'always Replace'.
Comment 3 maxkennedy 2003-06-20 18:48:56 UTC
On my XP system, this doesn't cause it (Writer) to crash, however,
while trying to reproduce it again I noticed some flakey behavior on
my system as well, indicating the same thing.

Following the same steps, after I check the backwards button and
always replace, the spelling checker ceases to catch any of the
mispelled words. If I start a new document, spell checker still
isn't working. If I exit Writer and restart Writer, spell checker is
still not working if if OOo quickstarter is loaded up in tray. Only
if I stop Writer and quickstarter and reload does spellchecker work
again.

So yes, I'd guess spellchecker is crashing, but on my system it isn't
hanging anything, and the rest of Writer continues to work.

PS: Have you been receiving any mail from OpenOffice.org mailing
list/issuzilla the last few days? I have several accounts, and none
of them are recieiving anything.

I can confim Maxkennedy's misbehavior report on Linux.
Something's very fishy with the spellchecker.

Reassigned to Michael.

MRU->TL: It's a very strange way to get the spellchecker looped. Only
when having words without replacment proposal and "always replace"
while spellchecking "backwords". Thus it is target OO 2.0

Also changed the Component to framework, because problem also occurs
in OO Calc.

SBA->TL: Too easy to run into this. Target not changed. Internal
developer note removed.
Comment 10 thomas.lange 2003-11-11 11:06:19 UTC
With the new spellcheck dialog the problem should be solved.
See #i20881#.

TL->SBA: Please check and close this one.
