Description Unknown 2003-06-18 09:33:04 UTC
Hi,

I am a user in Malaysia. For formatting negative numbers, normally we use it in
bracket.

Example: -100.00 to format as (100.00).

However when we go to Format/Cells/Numbers to format the negative number, there
is no option to choose it to shows as in bracket. In MS Excel, it work like magic.

Now I know it can be formatted manually as #,##0.00; (* #,##0.00).

However I would appreciate it if OOo project can include this formatting option
in the menu instead for the users to search needlessly for a simple solution.

Thank you.

this looks like a duplicate of 16759, but please don't close it as
DUPLICATE or WORKSFORME.
in MS Office this is a predefined format for numbers, users are
expecting to find it also in OOo and the string #,##0.00;(* #,##0.00)
is pretty long

Yes, it's a duplicate of 16759, but rather than simply requiring the
user to define his/her own format, the user should be able to choose
this one from a predetermined list.

This format of displaying negative numbers in parentheses has been
used for ages in accounting, and is a CRITICAL feature in getting
adoption of Calc by accounting firms.

Please provide this as a stock format.

For further descriptions see the duplicate issues. Such a "accountancy number
format" might need to include underlining too, see issue 23839.
