Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 15601
Wrong numeric-keypad decimal separator in Calc!
Last modified: 2003-09-08 16:55:29 UTC
There are many countries that use the "," symbol as decimal separator, but keyboards with Spanish layout (what we use in Latin America and Spain) come only with a "." (dot) printed in the keyboards' numerical keypads instead. Having set the decimal separator to "," in the Windows Control Panel, if you press the numeric keypad "." key to type a decimal number, Excel correctly enters the current decimal separator chosen by the user (a "," in this case) in Windows Control Panel. But in OOo Calc when you do the same thing it enters the "." dot, regardless of the decimal separator chosen in Windows. This is bad! Everytime you want to enter a decimal you end up with a non numeric string in the cell. Currently the only way is to press the "," in the main keyboard section. This is very unproductive and ultimately annoying! I don't know if this also happens under KDE or Gnome, but it would be a good idea to check it, if OOo is to succeed in countries using the "," as decimal separator, this should be fixed ASAP.
