Description dawerbuch 2003-06-09 19:17:38 UTC
I have created a document on OO 1.0.2 Wordprocessor, and saved it in Word 2000
format. When I open it in Word 2000 SR-1, there are number of formatting and
operation errors:

1. numbered outline list
1a. text is not separated from numbering
1b. When adding a new item to list by adding a new line from end of existing
one, back-tab does not properly unindent the line.

David,
please attach the offending file to this issue, so that we can
reproduce the problem here. Also please check if the problem still
exists with OO 1.1 RC4. Meanwhile there were some fixes regarding
numbered lists in im-/export to Word format (e.g. aspect 1a is
definitely fixed). Feel free to re-open the issue, when you have done.
Thanks for supportig us!
Michael

sample nested numbered lists
Comment 5 dawerbuch 2003-09-15 16:55:44 UTC
Current status:

file created with OO RC4, contains nested numbered lists. Displays
and formats properly in OO Writer.

Saved file as Word 97/2000/xp format - or whatever the format is
called.

Loaded document into Word 2000. Displays correctly.

Place cursor at end of any numbered line. Press Enter. Line is
correctedly numbered and indented.

Now press TAB to indent the line.
What should happen: text and number should indent as a unit to next
tab stop, with number starting at 1 in appropriate number format
(under defaults in Word, would change to "a.").

What does happen: Number does not change, nor indent. Text indents
to next tab stop.

Cannot see the problem. Everything works fine. The numbered paragraphs
all get indented properly, when using Tab key. Also new generated
paragraphs work correctly as expected.

I just tried this test again to make sure I didn't do something
wrong. Sorry to inform you that the problem still exists as I
documented on 15-Sep-2003.

1. When indenting an appended sub-list item, the text indents but
the number does not.

2. When Unindenting an appended sub-list item, the numbering
correctly inserts itself into the higher-level numbering, but the
indentation does not change, the item remains indented with the lower
level sub-list.

Again, this is an OO-Writer file saved in Word format, and then read
into Word 2000 SR-1 (Release 9.0.3821).

I think, it is a problem of Word2000. When opening the document on my
older machine (where I have Word2000), the behaviour occurs as you
describe. But when opening the file with Word XP, everything works fine.
Maybe also MS could have fixed a bug there... they're also not free
from bugs, as everyone knows.

I tested it on Word 2000 and on Word XP (and also on a colleage's Word
2000 and other one's Word XP), and we came to the conclusion, that
this is a Word 2000 singularity. Our thoughts were strengthened by the
fact, that also Word 97 handles it in a correct way like Word XP....
