Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 15301
missing Project- / member features at germanophone Website
Last modified: 2003-12-06 14:52:32 UTC
There are several features related to the project or member functionality missing at the germanophone project: 1. general project info / links are missing for the de. subdomain there is no "Projekt: ", "Summmary:" ... info at the top of the page. The most annoying: the "join this project" link is missing 2. when logged in, I have no "member-feratures" (My issues, Submit issue, Admin) links at de.openoffice.org/index.html this is only for index.html .. the links are shown at other pages Can anybody correct this or point me to an error in our webpages?
Hi Andre, I didn't find anything unusual in the HTML code of index.html. The missing "member-features" (2.) are a result of making the page static. The static version can't be personalized. May be the missing "general project info" (1.) is also a result of making the page static. Louis, do you see anything wrong in the HTML code? If not, we should assign to support to get the final answer. Greetings, Stefan
Hi I couldn't find anything amiss. very likely something is wrong with the relevant template but I could not find that. reassigning to support. -louis
Louis: When I'm logged in to the de.ooo project I see all the relevant links that I should be seeing as specified in item #2. But for Item #1 -What content should the page be displaying? Do you have a sample html page I can look at that it should be loading? Or is it a separate template that gets loaded as a header in the links at the top? I do notice that the links on the left nav bar do redirect to the main www pages, but I think that is due to the way the page was set up. Could you clarify a bit more please? Thanks
I go to de.openoffice.org and I do not see: Project: [project name] Edit this Project | Request New Project Role Summary: [summary] Categories: License: LGPL/SISSL Owner(s): <name> Your Role(s): Project Owner go to http://website.openoffice.org, for instance, to see what we mean (but be prepared to be freaked out by other things on website ;) )
hm. I think I might be able to shed light. DE/www/index.html is staticized, I think. this may be affecting things. that is, all login information may be hidden as a result. louis
Ok, so knowing, that this is not due to an error of the html-code, we may put a static link for joining the project on top of the page. But I's prefere the either "register or log in" or "join" link, in case you are logged in or not. It is much easier for volunteers to join the project if thei see, if they actually are able to do so (registerd user, logged in, cookies enabled).
ST: could you address Andre's question about changing the content on the static page?
I understand Andre's request that he would like to have dynamic content on a static page :-) Andre, I agree that link depending on the login status are more convenient, but de.openoffice.org is too popular. Greetings, Stefan
Andre, the pages were staticized when mention was made of the magazine heise, which was immensely popular. We can request that the pages be de-staticized most of the time, and only staticized when you think it that there is some reason. The result of having it de-staticized is some significant slowness (depending on number of hits). I will request that the page be de-staticized. Kenneth, I'll request it of CN ops... thanks Louis
Louis, Stephan, thanks for information, why this "error" occures. Please leave the site staticized for the moment. I'd rather ask users about that, because speed is important, too. I've heard of some users, happy with the speed of de.openoffice.org, but unhappy with other ooo-sites. Do we have a number, how much slower a dynamic page will be (could the stats give such a number)? I'll give an update, if the site should be left static or not in about three or four days. Is this ok to you?
I'll leave it static until you tell me otherwise. As to information on how much slower... I don't know exactly. It depends on usage. If heise publishes something, it will be dramatically slower. If not much occurs, it will be only some bit slower--noticeable, but still usable. We may be able to arrange a workaround, e.g., a hard link to project registration. I think that may be possible but I'll have to investigate. **In the absence of that, have a link on the page asking users to send a note to you indicating what role they want, their username, email, and skills. In fact, it's better information than the standard template allows. -louis
we will discuss a workaround at germanophone project, because speed is very important. And we are definately not willing to reduce the traffic for de.openoffice.org ;-) ->invalid
