Rather than use openoffice.org "specific" vcl why we shouldn't use gtk+ 
(portable and unified look). I think that ximian worked on this.

please have a look at the discussion on the gsl mailing list about the
new toolkit. Simply replacing VCL with GTK is currently not an option.

If you are willing to work on that you are welcome of course
