Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 15054
Page margins & table of contents not set correctly
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:41:36 UTC
Hi, I just downloaded OpenOffice 1.1Beta 2 for testing purposes and I found these bugs (i couldn't find another bug, but appologies if there is one) in the margin translations and page settings. To test OpenOffice, I downloaded a word document (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/docs/ADtechover.doc) from the MS webiste and then opened it in both word and open office. Here's some of the probs I found: In page 3 (contents) in OO, the Contents 2 style has been rendered correctly, however the information has been indented past the edge of the page. Now I have checked it in word and it renders it correctly, however it has done this by setting a manual tab stop at 15.22cm. Also, for some reason, OO displays the page settings as riduculously large for the TOC only. Also, I found that the page margin settings in OO seem to be broken as while the left and right margins are correct, the top and bottom appear to have been set to the header and footers instead of the actual top and bottom. There are some other issues such as "paragraph after bullet" style hasn't had the indent settings set correctly in OO but overally - bloddy good job and it's heaps better than the earlier versions.

Using OOo1.1beta2 I can duplicate the "toc entry exceeding right margin" issue. I'm going to search for duplicates. Page margin settings seem to differ between OOo and Winword, but the outcome is quite the same on both. OOo handles these settings differently by design so this is *not* an issue. Which also helps us concentrate on one issue per report. Comparing the document in both, word and OOo side by side, one can see that there is virtually no difference in the resulting page layout. >> OO displays the page settings as riduculously large for the TOC only. Could not reproduce this one.
Haven't found a duplicate. Confirming.
Thanks for getting back on this this quickly. I'm glad that you could replicate the TOC size problem. I'll make a note for one problem per report in the future. In regards to the page margins rendering and size - fair enuf ;) I have definately seen the problem in the TOC though with the page width not being constrained to the normal A4 size. In saying I mean, in normal sections, the ruler up the top is white where you can type (i.e. inside the margins) and grey elsewhere. In the TOC section, it is white the whole way across which to me would seem to say that this may be a bug. It's minor though and truth be told, if the layout prob was fixed, i dont think anyone would notice ;) As a side note, i'd love to help out with OO and i've got good experience as a tester, can you suggest someone to contact or should I just log the bug reports?

Reassigned to MRU
MRU->BH: As long as Writer is not able to insert Tabs as hard attributes into a TOC, it won't be possible to import these TOC's from Word correctly.
Hello Michael, as adjusting the tab position relative to paragraph style indent will be fixed, this goes back to you, reset to issue type defect.
MRU->OS: I was referring to an outdated handling of Writer's TOC generating. Here, the document shows, that the algorith which sets the tabs in TOC paragraphs does not take care of the left indents.
Priority changed to P 3 Fixed in cws os24 in sw/source/core/doc/doctxm.cxx
cws os24 can be found on so-cwsserv01, wntmsci8 and unxlngi5.pro
Checked fix with CWS os24.
Verified. Fix will be icluded in OO 2.0.
