Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 14957
Problem with Turkish fonts opening MS Office 95 files
Last modified: 2004-01-06 10:27:19 UTC
Hi I've attached an MS Excel document when, upon opening under OOo 643, does not show the Turkish characters correctly. The problem is, I should have seen the Turkish characters (g breve, i dotless, s thorn etc) instead of Icelandic counterparts. This problem is reproduced under an Microsoft Windows 2000 with OpenOffice.org 1.1 beta 1 installed. We got the same result. Note that I've managed to open many (non-MS Office 95) files without any hassle and/or problems with OOo 643 including Arial fonts. I'm using Linux kernel 2.4.18, OOo 643. Thanks!

This issue was reported to be fixed, but we're still suffering from it. I'm reopening. Thanks a lot.

Hi, this is not a bug. Excel 5 is not Unicode capable. So The characters can't be interpreted in the correct way. Also the Excel 5 Filter is not developed any further. We have to focus on the currently used format which is Excel97/2000/xp. I'm sorry to tell you, but I've to close this Issue as wontfix. Frank
